The gait reeducation

Walking is one of basic human functions. Independent moving from one point to another is one of the most important actions we conduct daily. From the very early childhood human is learning how to keep the straight position of the body, how to obtain body balance, how to correctly move the body weight, and finally – how to walk. In the process of the growth, healthy man is obtaining the locomotion function, same time trying to optimise the energetic effort. Gait of the healthy people is highly economical, which means that it marks out with low energetic effort and high rate of the useful labour, which shows the beneficial relation between physical effort that has been done and energy, which has to be spent, for this labour to be done.

As a consequence of dysfunctional neuromuscular coordination, the disabled person has to involve many more muscles while walking. This increases the energetic effort of this activity.

Walking of the people who suffered the injury of the spinal cord demands six times bigger energetical investment than healthy people needs to pay. The nervous system’s and difficulty moving conditions together with longer hypokinesia caused by other diseases can badly influence the locomotion.

‘The gait reeducation’ phrase contain wide range of the activities which are with the view the learning or restoring the function of efficient moving of the patient. It is crucial, that the final quality of the walking that can be gained, mostly depend on the patient’s condition.
The gait reeducation mean to be restoring the lost walking function. The walking learning consists of three stages: preparing to walking including verticalization, the correct walking learning, the refinement of the walking, i.e. stairs walking
